On the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow, a ceremony of laying flowers at the monument to the staff, teachers and students of the university who died during the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) was held at the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov (KBSU).

Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Olga Petrova took part in the memorial event together with the university staff headed by Acting Rector Yuri Altudov.

The Chairman of the KBSU Veterans Council Khasan Shurdumov, addressing those present, said:

Today, June 22, on the day the Great Patriotic War began, the whole country remembers the victims of the most terrible war in the history of mankind, which became a test of incredible strength for the Soviet people. 144 employees and students of KBSU did not return from the battlefields, their names are carved on magnetic marble behind us. It is our duty to remember those who brought us victory, to pass on the truth about the war to the younger generation, so that people do not forget that the real winner is the Soviet people. We must do everything so that such a tragedy never happens again.

For a minute, the participants bowed their heads in memory of the fallen and as a sign of deep respect for the feat of the defenders of the Motherland.
