Release date: 07.03.2025

A memorial evening dedicated to the 81st anniversary of the forced displacement of the Balkar people was held at the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov.

The event brought together students, teachers, the university administration, as well as prominent cultural figures and journalists of the republic. The evening was opened by the acting rector of KBSU Yuri Altudov.

Despite the hardships, the Balkar people retained faith in the future and their ethnic identity. And in order to prevent such tragedies from happening again, we must preserve the memory of those who experienced suffering and loss. We must learn from the lessons of the past in order to build a future based on respect and mutual understanding.
The program included poems and songs in different languages, telling about the tragedy and the resilience of the people.

The presenters recalled that while the men were fighting at the front, almost 40 thousand people were deported in two hours — old people, women, children. More than 500 people died on the way, and the return to their homeland lasted 13 years.

Representatives of other nationalities living in Kabardino-Balkaria came to support the Balkar people.

This sad date unites us — it is the common pain of all the peoples of Kabardino-Balkaria. The national policy of the President of Russia is aimed at strengthening friendly ties, unity and mutual support between all the peoples of our country. The leadership of Kabardino-Balkaria also calls for this. In peace and harmony, strengthening unity, we will be able to withstand any adversity and achieve prosperity for our Fatherland,

— emphasized Madina Ezaova, director of the Adyghe Culture Center of KBSU

The guests of the evening were representatives of the republican intelligentsia: Deputy Chairman of the Union of Writers of the KBR Mutalip Beppaev, editor-in-chief of the magazine «Mingi-Tau» Asker Doduev, Honored Worker of Culture of the KBR Sakinat Musukayeva, Honored Journalist of the KBR Raziyat Shavayeva, editor-in-chief of the magazine «Nyur» Aripa Sabanchieva, director of the K.
