KBSU — «Green» University Of Russia

Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H.M. Berbekov entered the TOP-10 rating of the Green Higher Education Institutions of Russia program in 2018, which included universities whose student teams successfully completed the tasks of the All-Russian environmental quests «Share with us», «Lesomaniya», «Water of Russia» and «Ecoprosvet».

The ranking, organized by the Russian Ecological Movement “ECA” among the 200 universities of the country, took into account the results of the work carried out at universities to introduce separate waste collection, water saving measures, the number and effectiveness of student environmental education activities.

The environmental student team of the KBSU introduced a separate garbage collection at the university on an ongoing basis, systematically conducting actions on environmental education, coast cleaning, water conservation, and gardening. Among them are “Eco-Debate”, the contest “We need a forest”, the holding of an interregional youth forum of students of the North Caucasus Federal District “Ecological roll call”.

Asker Shibzukhov, head of the Green Watch feasibility study, spoke about their successful practices and large projects, one of them is «Share with KBSU». The goal of the project is to create conditions for separate collection of garbage in the walls of KBSU.

«We hope that the separate collection of waste will become routine for the modern society of the KBR, and this project will be the foundation of the clean environment of the KBR and the stimulus for the growth of the ecological culture of the population», — said Asker Shibzukhov

The ECA Movement is an interregional environmental non-governmental organization that has been operating since 2010. The movement is engaged in mass environmental education in order to involve as many people as possible in reducing their ecological footprint and caring attitude in nature. Among the areas of work of ECA are the implementation of large-scale programs and projects for the environmental education of children, youth and adults; formation of responsible waste management; protection of environmental rights of citizens, reforestation; other.

The program «Green universities of Russia» is aimed at the development of «green» administration on the basis of participating universities and the implementation of student environmental initiatives. The program includes Russian student quests, in which more than 50 thousand students from 288 Russian universities took part. In 2017, the Association of Green Universities of Russia was created — the All-Russian Youth Ecological Association of Universities, introducing on its base environmental practices and principles of sustainable development. To date, 47 Russian universities have joined the Association.
