Release date: 17.02.2022
On the eve of the International Day of the Mother Language and within the framework of the celebration of the Year of the Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of Russia, the centers of national cultures of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H.M. Berbekov launched a creative flash mob. The Mother Tongue Day is celebrated all over the world on February 21st. The holiday was established in 1999 by the decision of the 30th session of the General Conference of UNESCO. On this day, all languages are recognized as equal because each of them uniquely fulfills the destiny of man and each represents a living heritage that we should protect. Back in December, the leaders of the cultural centers of the KBSU announced the holding of creative competitions «The immortality of the people in their language», timed to coincide with the decade of native languages at the university, among students and schoolchildren of the KBR.
The children could read poetry, sing songs, or write an essay about their native language and send it electronically. Today, it is especially necessary to draw the attention of the younger generation to the importance of preserving the native language. Each nation is a unique culture, history, traditions, way of life. And, of course, the language. Preserving it is an important task. Unfortunately, due to restrictions on holding mass events this year, the celebrations had to be transferred to a remote format. However, we received a great response from schoolchildren and students wishing to take part in our flash mob,” — said the director of the Adyghe Culture Center Madina Ezaova. In revolutionary Russia in 1917, there were 193 languages, at the time of the collapse of the USSR, only 40. At all times, languages were born, existed, some died out over time, sometimes without even leaving a trace. For a language to survive, at least 100,000 people need to speak it. International Mother Language Day is primarily aimed at protecting endangered languages. This is a very important and urgent task. According to the director of the center of Balkar culture Artur Akhmetov, more than 400 entries have already been received. There is a systematization of the received material. Cultural centers will inform about the results of the competition on their pages in social networks: Facebook of the Scientific and Educational Center of the Russian Language and Culture, Instagram of the Center for Balkar Culture: @taulu_culture_kbsu, Instagram of the Adyghe National Cultural Center: @centre_of_adyge.
