KBSU discussed the possibility of creating youth laboratories in the divisions of secondary education

January 13, 2023 at the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H.M. Berbekov Acting Vice-Rector for Research Svetlana Khashirova held a meeting with representatives of the administrations of KBSU colleges on the issue of creating youth laboratories. The purpose of the meeting was determined by Svetlana Khashirova:

«As you know, the President of Russia declared 2022-2031 the decade of science and technology. Among the priority tasks that he outlined is the involvement of young people in research and development work, starting from school. The university has four colleges: pedagogical, medical, design, as well as the college of information technology and economics. Youth laboratories will be opened on the basis of each college. It is necessary to determine what is needed to create laboratories, what tasks they should perform, how to evaluate their effectiveness».

Ramazan Ligidov, head of the Department of Strategic Programs and Projects of KBSU, explained that in terms of the level of higher education in KBSU, 8 youth laboratories were formed in 2022. As an example, Ramazan Muaedovich cited the legal clinic of KBSU, created on the basis of the Institute of Law, Economics and Finance of KBSU.

«The clinic provides free legal assistance to citizens on various legal issues. A group of leaders from among the teachers of the IPEiF involves the most active students in the work, who officially do their practice there. Based on the results of their activities, the participants of the legal clinic make publications, final qualifying works. They already have several projects, two startups, with which they enter various competitions. This form of work allows students to expand their competencies, prepare projects under the guidance of not only their teachers, but also legal practitioners,” — said Ramazan Ligidov.

Svetlana Khashirova gave specific recommendations on the creation of youth laboratories in secondary vocational education units: you need to choose the head of the laboratory, someone who will collect active talented children, work with them, develop the research topic, etc.; select personnel, create a team; identify research areas, possibly taking into account those that are already being developed. You need to start with one goal, a project where there is already some kind of backlog.

«In the presentation it is necessary to indicate the name of the project, scientific directions, specific projects one or two, a list of necessary purchases for the implementation of these projects, and in conclusion, present the project team who will be involved in this. If there are publications, the laboratory will have the opportunity to participate in grant competitions. The description of the laboratory must necessarily contain the so-called effect of its creation — for the university, for the region, for the country, maybe. But the effect should not be in words, but in numbers.

For example, how many startups do you plan to launch, how many articles to publish, the amount of R&D. You can attract some firm as investors. When it is determined which projects will be implemented by the laboratories, the university management will assist in the search for investors», — explained Svetlana Khashirova, the Vice-Rector for Research proposed to finalize the presentations of laboratories by January 20, taking into account the recommendations received.

Also, the developments of colleges can be presented on February 8, 2023 at the traditional exhibition of scientific projects of young scientists dedicated to the Day of Science.
