KBSU celebrated the Day of the circassian national costume!
September 28, 2022 at the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H.M. Berbekov celebrated an unusual and very spectacular holiday — the International Day of the Circassian national costume.
It began its history in 2011, when on the initiative of the public movement «Adyge-Hase — the Circassian Parliament of the Republic of Adygea» was held for the first time. The date was not chosen by chance.
It was on this day in 1931 that the first national Circassian couturier of the republic, fashion designer Yuri Stash, known far beyond the borders of our country, was born.
The national costume of the Circassians has a long history and is distinguished by beauty and elegance. The Circassian coat, emphasizing broad shoulders and a thin waist, slenderness and smartness of the figure, dexterity, strength, has gained popularity all over the world and has become a symbol of the national spirit. The female Circassian costume is one of the most beautiful costumes of the peoples of the North Caucasus: it most successfully emphasizes the beauty of the female figure, and is also richly decorated with symbolic ornaments and, in general, looks very noble and majestic.
A collection of 12 pairs of magnificent national costumes of 12 Circassian tribes, made by fashion designer Zhanna Haraeva, was demonstrated by KBSU students, walking around the university in them, accompanied by the enthusiastic looks of oncoming students and teachers. At the site of the main entrance of KBSU, each of the couples spoke about the ethnic group whose costume was shown. Here were presented the outfits of Kabardians, Abadzekhs, Besleneevs, Bzhedugs, Zhaneevs, Temirgoevs, Mamhegs, Mahoshes, Natuhaevs, Ubyhs, Hatuhaevs, Shapsugs.
As the head of the Center for Adyghe Culture of KBSU named after A.A. Tsipinov Madina Ezaova: «The purpose of this action is to form among young people ethno-cultural knowledge about the Circassian peoples, friendly attitudes towards people of different nationalities and religious beliefs, the desire to emphasize the originality of national cultures of different peoples, the importance of preserving traditions, as well as the beauty and uniqueness of the folk costume, to show the integrity and cohesion of the people through the demonstration of the Circassian national costume in its various manifestations».
