KBSU awarded the medal «80 Years of Victory» to WWII veteran Abdul Shardanov

At the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov, the jubilee medal «80 Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945» was awarded to the veteran of the Great Patriotic War and labor, home front worker Abdul Khadzhimuratovich Shardanov. The ceremony was held in the Council of Veterans of KBSU, bringing together teachers and students.

The award was presented to the 94-year-old veteran by the Chairman of the Council of Veterans of KBSU Khasan Shurdumov. In his speech, he noted the combat and labor merits of Shardanov, emphasizing his contribution to the development of science and education of the republic. Since 1962, Abdul Khadzhimuratovich worked at KBSU, where he taught for more than 50 years at the Department of Physical Foundations of Micro- and Nanoelectronics. The scientist retired only at the age of 82, having retained an active position and love for science.

Abdul Shardanov was born on November 3, 1931, in the village of Malka. Having lost his father early due to repression, he moved with his mother and brothers to Etoko, where at the age of 8 he began working in the fields. The Great Patriotic War caught him when he was ten years old. He witnessed the horrors of war and experienced deprivation and hunger. Despite this, his mother was able to give her children an education.

In 1956, Shardanov graduated from the Physics Department of Tbilisi State University, and later defended his PhD thesis at Moscow State University.

Receiving the medal, the veteran shared his memories:

For me, this is not just an award, but a symbol of the fortitude and courage that we as a country demonstrated in difficult times. It is important to carefully preserve the memory of the feat of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. I am glad that my students continue to pass on this knowledge and values ​​to future generations.

The ceremony did not ignore the hero of the day’s energy: despite his age, he walks 6,000 steps daily, demonstrating his fortitude.

It is awarded to veterans of the Great Patriotic War, home front workers, residents of besieged Leningrad, Stalingrad and Sevastopol, as well as former underage prisoners of Nazi concentration camps.
