Release date: 09.09.2025

The Festival of Culture and Sports of the Peoples of the South of Russia was held in Sevastopol from September 4 to 7. More than 1,500 people from 16 regions of the country took part. This year, the festival was timed to coincide with the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

Students Yana Kulyushina, Inal Gurizhev and teacher of the KBSU Pedagogical College Natalya Kulyushina took part in the team event. Together they brought 1st place to KBR. KBSU archers became the only athletes from Kabardino-Balkaria who were awarded the gold of the festival.

Yana Kulyushina, a 3rd-year student of the Physical Education and Sports program, also became the winner in the individual championship in archery. She showed the best result for the entire duration of the festival and hit the target at a distance of 93 meters, thereby breaking the previous record of her coach and mother, Natalia Kulyushina:

“I am proud of Yana, because it was very difficult, strong and professional. The girls have not shot so far in 14 years of the Festival of Culture and Sports of the Peoples of the South of Russia,” the coach notes.

Archery is one of the leading disciplines at the Festival of Culture and Sports of the Peoples of the South of Russia. The rules of the competition are traditional, but at the festival, athletes used a bow without a sight, consisting of an arrow, a bowstring, limbs and a handle. The target is 80 centimeters. The participants of the competition start shooting from 21 meters, three attempts are given for each distance. When hitting the target, the distance is gradually increased by 3 meters.

Kabardino-Balkaria has always been a leader in this sport, notes Natalia Kulyushina, a teacher at the KBSU Pedagogical College:

“When our team arrives, all the shooters understand that it will be very difficult for them to win. Almost every year since 2011, when the festival started, our republic has won. We have a lot of guys who shoot at the level of candidates for master of sports. I believe that we will open an archery department or school here and move forward. We have all the conditions for this.”

KBSU athletes are already preparing for new Russian starts. On September 21, Yana Kulyushina will perform in Kazan at the Prosecutor General’s Cup of the Russian Federation. About 600 athletes will compete for the championship at the most massive club competitions in Russia.
