KBSU allocated over 21 million rubles for science development
A system of internal grants debuted at the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov (KBSU), which has become a tool for supporting scientists and a driver for relevant research aimed at solving the problems of the region and the country. The first results of the 2024-2025 competition indicate a high interest in science.
The Scientific and Technical Council of KBSU, having reviewed 62 applications from employees, doctoral students and postgraduates, approved 44 projects. Almost three quarters of the initiatives had a chance to be implemented. Financial support was distributed in two areas: research grants for a total of 7,700,000 rubles and targeted grants for 13,763,190 rubles.
When introducing internal grants, we set ourselves the goal of supporting those who are able to make a significant contribution to our university and the region. These grants are intended to stimulate research that has practical application and can positively impact people’s lives. We expect active participation from all colleagues in order to create projects together that will change our future for the better,
— noted acting rector of KBSU Yuri Altudov.
Thanks to funding, a wide range of studies are being conducted, which have already made it possible to study or solve a number of problems in the region and beyond.
For example, the team of Professor Rina Aramisova (Department of Hospital Therapy) received a targeted grant for the project «The Impact of Silicon and Other Minerals in Drinking Water on the Prevalence of Urinary System Diseases». Scientists, collaborating with the KBSU Environmental Monitoring Laboratory, have identified a direct correlation between exceeding the MAC of silicon in water/soil in certain areas of the KBR and the high incidence of urolithiasis.
Funding of scientific projects through an internal grant has become an important support in conducting research, as it not only provides the necessary resources, but also promotes interdisciplinary interaction with specialists from various fields, which allows exchanging knowledge and experience, new ideas and approaches,
— Aramisova believes.
Associate Professor Muslim Barazbiev and his colleagues are studying the «Ethnocultural Development of the Balkar People in the Context of the Regional and All-Russian Geocultural Space». The research is dedicated to the 200th anniversary of Balkaria’s entry into Russia. The grant allowed them to participate in international conferences, significantly improving the quality of their work.
Of course, the financial support of the university was a good incentive for our scientific work. We are confident that the results of the study will be useful not only for professional historians, but also for all those interested in the history of their people, native land and our country,
— Barazbiev shares.
Research is being conducted in a variety of fields: medicine, ecology, sociology, economics and history. For example, the state of language policy in the republic is analyzed, an innovative project office is created to forecast the implementation of regional development strategies.
In total, 25 research grants received funding. These funds (from 150,000 to 350,000 rubles each) are intended primarily for the completion and defense of candidate dissertations. 19 targeted grants are larger infusions (from 350,000 to 2,000,000 rubles per project) aimed at performing specific group research projects (R&D) with reporting in accordance with GOST. The amount of funding was determined by the complexity and scale of the application.
KBSU also supports young scientists planning to defend a dissertation and employees publishing articles in VAK and Scopus journals with incentive payments.
At the moment, another call for applications for an intra-university grant has started. Independent experts will analyze applications according to the criteria of scientific validity, significance of results, quality of planning and validity of activities.
