Students and staff of KBSU participated in «10,000 Steps to Life» challenge in Nalchik
The All-Russian «10,000 Steps to Life» walk, organized by the Kabardino-Balkarian Ministry of Health in conjunction with the regional public organization «League of the Nation’s Health» and the Medical Academy of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh. M. Berbekov, took place in the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria. The mass walk, held under the motto «Health for All,» attracted over 1,000 residents.
Participants gathered near the Youth Theater to choose a route based on their abilities. The organizers prepared two options: an easy («Health») walk of 10,000 steps to the Kursaal and back, and a more challenging («Sport») walk of 14,000 steps, including a walk around the four lakes of the Atazhukinsky Garden.
Before the start, a medical center from City Polyclinic No. 1 was available at the site. Those interested were able to have their blood pressure and blood sugar levels measured free of charge using the express method, as well as undergo anthropometric and ultrasound examinations.
Zareta Kambachokova, Deputy Director for Educational Work at the Kabardino-Balkarian State University Medical Academy and Head of the Regional Branch of the All-Russian Public Organization «League for the Health of the Nation,» explained:
«The All-Russian ‘10,000 Steps to Life’ campaign is based on the World Health Organization’s recommendation to walk 6,000 to 10,000 steps a day to maintain a minimum of normal physical activity. We have been running this campaign in Kabardino-Balkaria since 2016. The health route our participants followed today was developed by the regional branch of the «League for the Health of the Nation» and is included in the Unified Register of Health Routes of the Russian Federation.»
About 500 students and staff members from the Kabardino-Balkarian State University Medical Academy participated in the health marathon. Another 45 university student volunteers assisted with the organization: they met participants at each checkpoint, directed them along the route, measured their pulse and blood pressure, and distributed informational brochures.
The main goal of the event is to promote a healthy lifestyle and draw attention to the importance of regular physical activity. Walking remains one of the most accessible ways to strengthen the immune system, lose weight, and prevent cardiovascular disease.
All registered participants received electronic certificates.
