Kabardino-Balkarian State University Students Among Winter Archery Competition Winners
Students from the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov excelled at the Kabardino-Balkarian Open and Indoor Archery Championships, as well as the Interregional Archery Tournament for Persons with Musculoskeletal Disabilities (MODD) and Visual Impairments. The competition, held at the Nalchik Universal Sports Complex, brought together 74 archers from 11 regions of Russia – from the southern republics (Chechnya, North Ossetia, Adygea, and Karachay-Cherkessia) to the Moscow and Volgograd regions.
As Alexander Kulyushin, President of the Kabardino-Balkarian Archery Federation, noted:
These are the strongest athletes currently preparing for the Russian Championships, and our competition should serve as a launching pad for them. Participants included both novice archers and seasoned professionals: three world champions, including a bronze medalist from the Tokyo Paralympic Games, as well as athletes returning from military service.
The first day of competition was devoted to qualifications, and the second to finals in the Classic and Compound Bow disciplines.
The Kabardino-Balkarian team was represented by 19 athletes, many of whom demonstrated excellent results and won medals of various denominations. Students from KBSU were particularly outstanding.
Yana Kulyushina, a third-year student in Physical Education and Sports at KBSU, won the Kabardino-Balkarian Championship in Classic Bow:
I took first place. I consider this performance in the final rounds one of my best. I managed to achieve my goals and objectives. On January 21st, Yana will compete in the Russian Archery Championship in Oryol, and on January 24th, she will represent KBSU at the All-Russian Student Competition. We wish her good luck and continued success!
Akhmed Kishev, a third-year student majoring in Applied Informatics at KBSU’s Institute of Informatics, Electronics, and Artificial Intelligence, also performed well. He took second place in the 18-meter classic archery event at the interregional tournament for athletes with disabilities and visual impairments.
The competition was very strong. The semifinal was a close and competitive battle, and I won 6-4. Unfortunately, luck ran out in the final, and I took the silver medal,» Akhmed shared.
Following the competition, the champions and runners-up were awarded cups, medals, and certificates. The tournament concluded with the «Sharpshooter» competition, the winners of which received special prizes.
The organizers also announced their intention to develop adaptive archery for the visually impaired in Kabardino-Balkaria, opening up new opportunities for inclusive sports in the region.
