International Russian Language Olympiad at KBSU: Foreign students compete in language knowledge

On May 24, 2024, the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov hosted an Olympiad in the Russian language among students of the Higher School of International Education, dedicated to Philologist’s Day.

Acting Acting Directors addressed the participants with words of greeting and wishes for success. Vice-Rector for Admissions and Pre-University Activities Arsen Kharaev and Director of the Higher School of International Education Asiyat Zhurtova.

KBSU students from Syria, Jordan, India, Egypt, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, as well as guests from Palestine, demonstrated successful knowledge of the Russian language. Experienced teachers worked with them for more than three months. Lyubov Atabieva, assistant professor of the department of Russian language and general education disciplines for foreign students, worked with the older group of 10 people, and Emma Kokova, assistant professor of the Russian language and general education disciplines for foreign students, worked with the younger group of the same composition.

Interesting competitions were held at the Olympiad, including “A Minute of Poetry”, correcting errors in sentences, composing words from figures in the task “Geometry of Words”, as well as a competition of phraseological units. The children showed excellent knowledge of Russian proverbs and sayings and easily solved the puzzles. All participants were awarded with certificates and gifts.

The jury included teachers from the department of Russian language and general education disciplines for foreign students of KBSU. The organizer of the Olympiad was Emma Kokova, associate professor of the department of Russian language and general education disciplines for foreign students.
