Heroes of the Russian Federation honored at KBSU

September 13 at the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H.M. Berbekov met with the heroes of the Russian Federation Vladimir Terekhov, Vladimir Alimov and Valery Kukov.

The meeting was organized thanks to the regional patriotic project «Leveling on the Heroes of the Fatherland» of the National Association of Associations of Reserve Officers of the Armed Forces «Megapir» on the initiative of the head of the Kabardino-Balkarian regional branch of the Association, retired colonel Zhasharbek Ataev. Chairman of the KBSU Council of Veterans Khasan Shurdumov greeted those present and noted that it has become a good tradition at our university to meet annually with the legendary Heroes of Russia, for whom the concepts of «honor», «conscience», «valor», «service to the Motherland» are not just words, but meaning life. It is gratifying that the meeting with the Heroes of Russia takes place in those days when residents and guests of the KBR celebrate a glorious date — 100 years since the founding of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic. Also, in less than a month, in October, KBSU will celebrate its 90th anniversary. Our meeting with the Heroes of Russia is dedicated to these dates, — Khasan Ismailovich said.

Over the past five years, eight heroes of Russia have visited KBSU, and today’s meeting was attended by: commander of a nuclear submarine, captain 1st rank Vladimir Yuryevich Terekhov, military pilot, colonel Vladimir Rashidovich Alimov, military intelligence officer, colonel Valery Petrovich Kukov. Not only university staff, but also students from various departments gathered to greet the guests. Those present watched videos about the present heroes, made by the National Association of Associations of Reserve Officers of the Armed Forces «Megapir». Each of the invited guests told a little about himself, his activities and for which he received the highest title, awarded for services to the state and people associated with the accomplishment of a heroic deed. Then the guests of honor answered questions from the audience.

The students were interested in completely different aspects of the life of the Heroes. For example, a military pilot, Colonel Vladimir Alimov spoke about his participation in the liquidation of the consequences at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Despite the received dose of radiation, the active pilot remained in the army aviation. The public was hung up with Vladimir Rashidovich’s stories about pets, of which he has many.

“My dear wife does not stop feeding all the stray cats and dogs that sometimes wander to us,” — said Alimov. And the military intelligence officer, Colonel Valery Kukov, shared that he never wanted to be a military man, he dreamed of becoming a geologist. “It’s just that all my friends entered the military path: some went to the rocket school, some to the combined arms school, some where else. And I am the only one from our company — in a civilian university. I think, what am I, a white crow, or what? I took the documents, went … We are friends, but friends do not leave each other, ”shared Valery Petrovich. The commander of the nuclear submarine, captain 1st rank Vladimir Terekhov told what tests of deep-sea vehicles he participated in and how he trained specialists to maintain this equipment.

“When meeting with young people, I often hear dubious words that nothing good happened in Soviet times. I remember 1985. “We returned to the base, lay down in a drift, waiting for the release of the“ unit ”, that is, another submarine going to combat service,” — says Vladimir Terekhov. — Submarines created by the hands and minds of our country’s shipbuilders. All equipment — from the body to the last bolt — was created at our enterprises, nothing imported. Young people should know about this and be proud of the achievements of Russian shipbuilders.”

In gratitude for the meeting, Candidate of Philosophical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Ethnology, History of the Peoples of the KBR and Journalism Eldar Dymov made a musical gift to the guests by performing the song «Birch Dreams».
