G. Trubnikov: I Am Very Impressed By KBSU
On July 29, within the framework of his official visit to the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, First Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Grigory Trubnikov held at the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H. M. Berbekov meeting with representatives of the scientific community in the region.
On the eve, Grigory Vladimirovich visited the Baksan Neutrino Observatory of the Institute for Nuclear Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences, where on July 28 an official start was given to the BEST International Scientific Experiment (Baksan Experiment on Sterile Transitions) to search for a neutrino particle. On a journey through the unique underground laboratory, he was accompanied by project manager, laboratory head at the Institute for Nuclear Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vladimir Gavrin, rector of the KBSU Yuri Altudov, and scientific specialists at the observatory. Trubnikov also met with the chairman of the KBR Government, Aliy Musukov, with whom they discussed the key positions for implementing the BEST experiment.
Director of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research Viktor Matveev, Director of the Institute for Nuclear Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences Leonid Kravchuk, Deputy Director of the Institute of Nuclear Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences Grigory Rubtsov, Acting Valery Petkov, head of the branch of the Baksan Neutrino Observatory of the INR, RAS.
Rector of the university Yuri Altudov showed them the key scientific and educational centers of KBSU, after which Grigory Trubnikov shared his impressions of what he saw:
“I am very impressed with the university, did not expect to see such a super-energy rector and a young, strong, research team. Today we watched laboratories, ranging from the medical faculty to the laboratory of supernova polymeric materials. The republic can be proud on a national scale with its developments for aviation, for the complex chemical industry. What we saw today is very impressive. I was most impressed by the fact that higher education in the republic is treated not only as an important component of the future of the region, but also in the right sense, rationally and pragmatically. There is no chase for large extra-budgetary incomes from training specialists for whom it is not clear, but there is such a rational approach to training specialists in a particular industry in the specialties that are needed. People understand why they are educated, where they go to work. And this attitude of the university and the whole republic to the process of education is very correct, in my opinion. Higher education is exactly the economic sector, and the university becomes a kind of growth point or reset point not just for the city, but for the whole region. I can talk a lot about the laboratories we visited today. I am delighted with the burning eyes of scientists, from very specific developments that are not on the shelf, but are already being applied. Robots that are also in demand in the work. All this makes a great impression,” — said Trubnikov.
Then the experimental physicist, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Grigory Trubnikov met with his colleagues — scientists of the republic. The meeting was moderated by Yury Altudov, the rector of KBSU. He asked to tell the guest about the purpose of his trip to the KBR.
Noting that the changes in Kabardino-Balkaria over the past 15 years, he was very impressed, Grigory Trubnikov stressed that the flagship experiment at the Baksan neutrino telescope would allow the science of the region to be brought to the world level.
“Yesterday we practically gave an official start to this project. He was preparing for three years. There have been quite large investments — several hundred million rubles from the ministries and the state corporation Rosatom. I am sure that this experiment will give a new breath not only to the laboratories, but to the whole region as a whole and, of course, to the university, because without an educational component, the project will not really be on the wing, and we already agreed on future plans yesterday, we are already looking in the day after tomorrow. At the moment, it is known that neutrinos can be of three types: electron, tau, and muon, but there is a hypothesis that there is a fourth type — the so-called «sterile» neutrino. If a new-generation neutrino particle is detected, it will be the result of the Nobel level. ”
After that, the state official expressed readiness to discuss and support any progressive initiatives. And scientists of the republic did not take long to wait.
So, head. the Department of Theoretical and Experimental Physics, KBSU, Murat Hokonov, initiated the revival of the Baksan Scientific School, which at one time nurtured a number of specialists for the Neutrino Observatory.
KBSU President Barasbi Karamurzov also spoke of the painful urge, strongly urging the ministry to revise the financing parameters of budget places in university magistracies upwards.
“Without a master’s program there is no graduate school, which means that in the foreseeable future we may lose a significant number of scientists,” — said Karamurzov.
Also with proposals to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation addressed the Minister of Education, Science and Youth Affairs of the KBR, Aues Kumykov, the Minister of Economic Development of the KBR, Boris Rahaev, the rector of the KBPAU named after Valery Kokov Aslan Apazhev, Director of the High-Mountain Geophysical Institute Mukhtar Bekkiev, Director of the Institute of Ecology of Mountain Territories of the KBNC RAS Fatima Tembotova and others.
Grigory Trubnikov listened attentively to the participants of the meeting and promised to make all possible efforts in solving the problems voiced.
