Future KBSU Law Students Among Finalists in the Prestigious International Olympiad

Fourth-year students majoring in Jurisprudence at the Institute of Law, Economics, and Finance at Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov, Maryam Ibragimovna Kuzhonova and Milana Akhedovna Kunizheva, have become finalists in the 5th International Scientific Competition – Olympiad in International Criminal Law on the topic «Countering the Ideology of Terrorism and Extremism.»

The Olympiad was organized by the Institute of Legislation and Comparative Law under the Government of the Russian Federation, the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (University) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, the A. Ya. Sukharev Moscow Academy of the Investigative Committee, and the V. Ya. Kikot Moscow University of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. Students from leading Russian and international universities participated in the intellectual competition.

The competition work by students from the Institute of Law, Applied Mathematics, and Philosophy at KBSU focused on the problem of youth extremism and an analysis of the factors influencing its spread. The finalists’ academic advisor was Leyla Zalikhanova, Associate Professor of the Department of Criminal Law, Procedure, and Forensic Science, under whose guidance the research was distinguished by its relevance and high level of development.

«For me, participating in this Olympiad was a real challenge and an opportunity to test my knowledge at an international level. Working on the research allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the nature of extremism and ways to prevent it,» notes Maryam Kuzhonova.

Of particular significance is the fact that a review of the best competition works, including the work by Maryam Ibragimovna Kuzhonova and Milana Akhedovna Kunizheva, will be published in the journal «International Criminal Law.» This peer-reviewed publication is included in the list of academic journals recommended by the Higher Attestation Commission under the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation for the publication of dissertation research results.

«We are pleased to have been able to represent our university with distinction. This experience will certainly be useful in our future professional endeavors and will inspire new research projects,» adds Milana Kunizheva.

The KBSU Institute of Law and Philosophy students’ advancement to the finals of the prestigious Olympiad is a significant achievement for the university and confirmation of the high level of training of future lawyers. This success demonstrates the readiness of young researchers to contribute to solving global legal challenges and strengthening legal culture in the field of countering terrorism and extremism.
