Release date: 15.05.2025

Students studying in the Information Security specialty at the Institute of Electronics, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (IERiII) of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov (KBSU) visited the company VimpelCom.

The excursion, organized within the framework of the discipline «Secure Information Systems», allowed future specialists to see from the inside the work of one of the largest telecommunications operators.

The students learned how data transfer security is ensured, cyberattacks are prevented and subscriber privacy is maintained. VimpelCom experts demonstrated the operation of encryption systems, threat monitoring and network equipment, shared real-life cases from practice, focusing on technologies for protecting mobile infrastructure from external and internal risks.

The students also deepened their knowledge of the principles of operation of cellular operators: from designing and servicing base stations to traffic management technologies and ensuring uninterrupted communications, as well as the role of energy infrastructure in maintaining network stability.

It is important for us that students understand that information security is a complex process where every detail, from engineering solutions to power supply, plays a role,

— emphasized Boris Kaziyev, technical director of PJSC VimpelCom.

Aslan Taov, senior lecturer at the Department of Computer Technologies and Information Security at IERII, noted the practical importance of the excursion:

Such events show students the connection between academic disciplines and real-life industry tasks. They see that their future profession is not only programming, but also teamwork, innovation, and high responsibility.

The visit to VimpelCom strengthened the partnership between IERII KBSU and the company. The parties discussed prospects for cooperation, including organizing internships, student participation in projects, and conducting joint research.
