Release date: 06.02.2026

As part of Science Week, the Social and Humanitarian Institute of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov held a scientific seminar on current issues in Karachay-Balkar linguistics within the paradigm of modern Turkology.

The main objective was to discuss the prospects for the development of national philology.

Opening the seminar, Doctor of Philology and Honored Scientist of Kabardino-Balkaria Mussa Ketenchiev emphasized that the educational program and research work of the Department of Karachay-Balkar Philology are aimed at the in-depth study, preservation, and active development of the native language.

The professor noted with satisfaction that master’s students publish at least two articles annually in peer-reviewed scientific journals included in the Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI), as well as in publications listed by the Higher Attestation Commission (HAC).

«We begin preparing students for research during their undergraduate studies, building a solid foundation of knowledge and skills. Some students have more than twenty publications during their studies,» he said, sharing his students’ achievements.
Mussa Ketenchiev encouraged students not to limit themselves to language study but to also delve into the history of their native lands and their unique traditions.

«Language is closely linked to the history and ethnography of a people. For example, proverbs and sayings created hundreds of years ago remain relevant today, despite changes in life,» he emphasized.
Ketenchiev also noted the important support that the university administration provides to its national departments. This has significantly expanded opportunities for publishing research papers in leading Russian and international journals.

Furthermore, partnerships with research centers and universities across Russia are actively developing, as well as collaboration with Turkological institutions in neighboring and distant countries.

Musa Ketenchiev emphasized that this comprehensive approach to studying the Karachay-Balkar language, encompassing educational, research, and international activities, creates a solid foundation for the preservation and development of national philology, which is particularly relevant in the context of globalization and the rapid development of information technology.
