English battle at KBSU: Where is the truth? In the media or online?
At the Department of Foreign Languages of the Social and Humanitarian Institute of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H.M. Berbekov held a regular meeting of the English speaking club on the topic “Social Media and Human Relations” (Social networks and human relationships). The organizers of the meeting are senior teachers of the Department of Foreign Languages Karina Oshroeva and Radmila Teuvazhukova.
The purpose of the meeting is to provide students with a platform for conversational communication in English. The meeting was held in the form of a dialogue platform «Jeff’s Game», when it is necessary to speak freely, answer questions, and defend one’s opinion. The participants were divided into three groups: those who considered the media and Internet resources a reliable source of information; those who could not decide, and those who are categorically against the media. Each group was given the opportunity to speak.
During the discussion, the guys could change their point of view and move from one group to another. Each group very actively defended its position, while listening and taking into account other people’s opinions. Students were most involved in the conversation, were not afraid to ask questions and discuss. The vocabulary of the English language of the students was a pleasant surprise for the teachers, who noted the absence of a language barrier among the participants in the discussion.
We cannot but rejoice at the fact that the number of students who speak English well has increased. We had the opportunity to verify this today. I also liked the idea of holding the session in an interactive way. This contributed to your maximum emancipation. I hope to see you in the same composition at our annual English Olympiad!
— concluding the meeting, the head of the Department of Foreign Languages, Associate Professor Rita Kenetova addressed the future linguists.
