Educational Journey: The first stage of the project «University Shifts — 2025» has ended at KBSU
The first stream of the federal project «University Shifts — 2025», which took place from May 24 to June 2, 2025, has ended at the Elbrus Educational and Scientific Complex of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov. For ten days, 140 high school students from the Luhansk People’s Republic got acquainted with university life, educational programs and the unique nature of Kabardino-Balkaria.
The program of «University Shifts» was rich and varied: the children were treated to master classes from university teachers, business games and trainings, studying the history, ecology and cultural studies of the region, sports competitions, creative evenings and quests. All this ensured a balance between study and rest. A bright component of the project was a tour of KBSU, which allowed schoolchildren to see the university from the inside and get acquainted with its infrastructure.
The tour route included a visit to the key departments of the university. At the Institute of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, the shift participants got acquainted with modern laboratories and current scientific projects. Then the schoolchildren visited the Institute of Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery and the Medical Academy of KBSU, where they were told about the training of future doctors. The children also learned about the activities of students of the Institute of Pedagogy, Psychology and Physical Culture and Sports Education and the Social and Humanitarian Institute. Particular attention was paid to creative areas: the guests visited the design college.
In addition, the participants were shown the work of the center for progressive materials and additive technologies, where the latest 3D printing methods and innovative materials are used. The schoolchildren also visited the KBSU eSports club, which aroused particular interest among fans of modern technology and computer games. For many, this was the first acquaintance with such a variety of fields of knowledge within one university.
Participants of the first stream of «University Shifts» will also take with them a sea of bright emotions and unforgettable impressions from hikes to the picturesque natural attractions of Kabardino-Balkaria: the rock formations «Sand Castles» and the glacier «Shkhelda».
Ruslan Reznikov is a 9th grade student, after a visit to Kabardino-Balkaria he thought about entering KBSU:
KBSU is the university of the future! There are so many opportunities for development, so many interesting areas. And the nature of Kabardino-Balkaria is simply mesmerizing!
Alina Lavrenko, also a 9th grade student, does not hide her admiration:
I am delighted with the atmosphere of KBSU, the teachers and students are very friendly here. The program of the shifts was intense, we learned a lot of new and interesting things. And, of course, hiking in the mountains is something incredible! In total, 11 streams are planned to be held in 2025 within the framework of the «University Shifts», which will accept 1,550 high school students from various regions of Russia, including the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, Zaporizhia and Kherson regions. The program is implemented by experienced teachers, psychologists and medical workers, providing comprehensive support and safety for participants. The initiator of the project is the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia. The project is aimed at supporting young people, helping them choose a profession and getting acquainted with university life, as well as psychological rehabilitation of schoolchildren from new Russian regions.
