Designing, drawing, sewing… schoolchildren have tried it all at KBSU
On October 21, 2022, the Open Doors Day for high school students of the republic was held at the Institute of Architecture, Construction and Design of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H.M. Berbekov.
Tolya Khezhev, director of IASiD, spoke about the history of the unit, directions of training and further employment of graduates:
«This year our institute turned 65 years old. It has been functioning as part of the KBSU since 1957, first under the name of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, from 1960 to 2015 — the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, since 2015 — the Polytechnic Institute, and since 2016 — the Institute of Architecture , construction and design.
The institute has 3 graduating departments and a college, where the following areas of training are implemented: «Architecture», «Construction», «Housing and Communal Infrastructure», «Design» in the profiles «Costume Design», «Interior Design», «Graphic Design», «Decorative art and folk crafts» on the profiles «Artistic metal», «Artistic embroidery».
Today, over 900 students study at the Institute of Architecture, Construction and Design. The professions of an architect, builder are quite popular in the labor market and such specialists earn good money. Our graduates work at construction sites, in design organizations and supervise the process of construction or repair of structures, architects are responsible for the aesthetic appearance of buildings, take care of the availability of the necessary infrastructure.
Designers are unique specialists in various fields of activity, whose talent is in high demand among customers. By enrolling in our institute, you can become an excellent specialist in any of the chosen fields of knowledge and will be able to realize yourself as a sought-after professional in the future».
Galina Karsakova, Deputy Head of the Department for Career Guidance and Pre-University Training, reminded schoolchildren of two important dates for those wishing to enter a university. This is November 1, when information about the upcoming admissions campaign 2030 will appear on the university website, where you can find out about entrance exams for any of the directions, the number of budget places, etc. And on February 1, when the list of selected USE subjects will be approved.
Galina Karsakova explained to the audience how to get additional points for the Unified State Examination. To do this, you need to graduate from school with a gold or silver medal, have a volunteer book, a TRP badge, be a winner or prize-winner of Olympiads held by KBSU. There can be no more than 10 additional points for the exam. As part of the open day, schoolchildren went on excursions to the scientific and educational laboratories of IASiD, attended master classes of specialists in the direction of «Design».
High school students saw how jewelery students, under the guidance of Zalina Unezheva, a teacher at the Department of Design and DPI, IASiD, work in the technique of soldering, filigree on the manufacture of a national belt buckle and details for it. No less interesting was the master class on gold embroidery by Radima Murzakanova, teacher of the Department of Design and DPI, IASiD. High school students learned that the work of an embroiderer is very delicate and painstaking.
«The works of craftswomen were valued and passed down from generation to generation. Thanks to this, we now know the ancient embroidery techniques and can see real examples of the work of embroiderers of different times. This is especially important for studying and preserving the traditions of folk costume», — said Radima Murzakanova.
According to the guests who reluctantly left the university, the open day of the Institute of Architecture, Construction and Design became a spectacular, bright and interesting event.
