Cybersecurity Masterclass at KBSU: How to Protect Yourself in the Digital World
Cybersecurity specialist Mikhail Dzidzevich held a masterclass on digital hygiene for students of the Design College and Medical College of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov.
The expert examined in detail the most common online fraud schemes, such as phishing, social engineering, and malware. Particular emphasis was placed on dropshipping—a relatively new type of criminal activity in which third parties, often unaware of their role in the illegal operations, are recruited to cash out or transfer stolen funds.
«Many people think that cybersecurity is a complex technology available only to specialists. In fact, the foundation of protection is a culture of digital behavior built on awareness, attentiveness, and healthy skepticism. Every action you take online is a potential line of defense,» noted Mikhail Dzidzevich. The expert gave students specific security advice. He warned them to critically evaluate all incoming messages, emails, and offers, use complex, unique passwords and two-factor authentication, verify information through official sources, and avoid clicking on dubious links.
Dzidzevich also addressed the topic of legal liability in the digital environment. He explained that ignorance of the law is no excuse, and even unintentional participation in cyber fraud (for example, sharing your bank details or using an account to transfer funds) can lead to serious legal consequences – from large fines to criminal prosecution.
«Remember: your digital literacy is not only about protecting your data but also about legal security. Participating in dubious schemes, even unknowingly, can ruin your reputation and future career, especially in sensitive fields such as medicine and design,» the speaker warned.
The masterclass not only provided students with a deeper understanding of the nature of modern cyber threats but also provided the expert with practical tools for protecting personal and professional information.
