«Curtain» Theatre of KBSU: 10 years of creative work and new horizons

This year, the student theatre of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov «Curtain» turns 10 years old. During this time, it has come a long creative way. Its permanent director, drama and film actress Madina Dokshukina, spoke about the history of the theatre, its achievements and successes.

«The idea of ​​creating a student theatre arose in 2015. More than 30 people came to the first audition. Rehearsals began in October, and in December the premiere of the first production took place — the comedy of situations «Bad Boys» by Ray Cooney. This performance became a real inspiration for the young team,» recalls Madina Dokshukina.
Over the past years, «Curtain» has managed to try its hand at various genres: from classical Russian and foreign drama to modern plays.

«The theater is not only a stage and an audience. It is a space for self-discovery, rethinking the world and the opportunity to share your vision with the public. Each of our performances is the result of enormous work, search and dedication. Our actors understand that success depends on teamwork and mutual responsibility,» the director says.
For the anniversary, «Zanaves» is preparing a special premiere — a musical comedy by A. Tsagareli «Khanuma», for which a choreographer from the Kaliningrad Musical Theater was invited to work. In addition, it is planned to hold an anniversary «cabbage party», where all former members of the theater troupe will gather to remember joint moments, share experiences and celebrate the team’s achievements. Over 10 years, about a hundred people have gone through the «Zanaves» school.

Immediately after the anniversary events, the theater intends to announce auditions for new participants. This will be a chance for talented students to reveal their abilities and become part of a friendly team.

Speaking about the main criteria for selecting newcomers, Madina Dokshukina notes:

“In our theater, we value reliability and responsibility. Since we are all working on creating a production, the ability not to let us down is a key quality. My first question to every new person: can we rely on you? We are a studio team, where everyone, in addition to stage performances, must be ready for everyday tasks, be it cleaning or working with scenery. The ability to effectively interact with others is the basis for success. If a person has a sincere desire, then everything will definitely work out.”
“Zanaves” has extensive plans, but the team prefers to act modestly and gradually. The main thing is to continue creating, developing and delighting the audience with new performances.
