Cosmonautics Day
April 12, 2023 marks 62 years since the first manned flight into space, since the beginning of the era of manned astronautics. The date was established in connection with the event that took place on April 12, 1961, when a citizen of the Soviet Union, Yuri Alekseevich Gagarin, made a successful manned flight into space.
The world’s first pilot-cosmonaut on the Vostok-1 spacecraft completed an orbit around the Earth, the flight duration was 108 minutes. Since 2011, the memorable date has been celebrated as the International Day of Human Space Flight. The decision on this was made at the 65th session of the UN General Assembly. Behind the great achievements of our country is the work of many specialists — scientists, designers, engineers, workers, military men, doctors.
Among those who have made a worthy contribution to the development of the space industry, there are many representatives of Kabardino-Balkaria. Several industrial enterprises of our region participated in the space program, ensuring the development and production of the necessary equipment according to the state order. Many cosmonauts visited Nalchik and the regions of the KBR.
The social networks VKontakte, Facebook and Odnoklassniki posted correspondence, interviews, essays, photographs and other materials published at different times in the federal and republican mass media, reflecting the connection of Kabardino-Balkaria with one of the most important events in the history of mankind. This connection can be traced, first of all, through the professional actions and fates of our countrymen.
