An outstanding scientist and educator who dedicated her life to the advancement of science: KBSU Professor Rima Bazheva celebrates her anniversary
Today, Rima Chamalovna Bazheva, Deputy Director of the Institute of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, and Professor of the Department of Organic Chemistry and Macromolecular Compounds, celebrates her 65th birthday.
Rima Bazheva dedicated most of her life to serving her alma mater, her university. Her research and teaching experience spans an impressive 42 years.
Her path to science began with a gold medal, awarded upon graduating from high school in the village of Kishpek in the Baksan District. In 1978, Rima Chamalovna entered KBSU to major in Chemistry. Demonstrating outstanding abilities, she graduated with honors. This was followed by full-time postgraduate study in the Department of Chemical Engineering of Plastics at the D.I. Mendeleyev University of Chemical Technology of Russia, where she successfully defended her PhD thesis in 1987, specializing in «Technology and Processing of Plastics and Fiberglass.»
That same year, Rima Chamalovna began her career at Kabardino-Balkarian State University as a junior research fellow. Throughout her career, she demonstrated consistently high results, which allowed her to successfully advance through the ranks. In 2000, she was appointed Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs of the Faculty of Chemistry. A significant milestone was receiving her doctorate in 2010. From 2022 to 2025, Rima Bazheva headed the Institute of Chemistry and Biology, and currently serves as Deputy Director of the Institute of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.
Rima Chamalovna’s teaching activities are inextricably linked with her active research. She is a recognized leading expert in the synthesis of heat-, flame-, and thermally stable aromatic polyesters and composites based on them. Her research focuses on the development of new superstructural aromatic polyesters intended for use in aerospace engineering, automotive, and shipbuilding. Professor Bazheva is also engaged in the search for new, highly economical, and environmentally friendly technologies for their production.
The research work of this Doctor of Chemical Sciences focuses on improving production technologies and comprehensively studying new aromatic polyesters, as well as the creation of composite materials based on various binders. She has made significant contributions to the development of priority scientific areas, facilitating significant scientific breakthroughs in the development of new aromatic polyethers and polyesters with high heat, thermal, fire resistance, and strength properties. Her research resulted in the creation of a pilot batch of modified polycarbonate at NPO Plastmassy in Moscow in 1986. Rima Chamalovna is the author of over 500 scientific and educational works, including 7 monographs, 10 textbooks, and 17 methodological guidelines. Her articles have been published in over 50 leading international journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science. She is also the author of over 100 patents for inventions in the Russian Federation. Under Bazheva’s supervision, three PhD theses were successfully defended, she served as a scientific advisor to three doctoral students, and supervised over 100 final theses and master’s theses.
The scientific discoveries of Rima Chamalovna and her students occur at the intersection of various disciplines through interdisciplinary research. These discoveries include the application of a variety of physical and mechanical methods to study the composition and structure, testing of the obtained samples, and the use of mathematical methods to process experimental data.
Thanks to her scientific research, Rima Bazheva has repeatedly won grants from the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR), the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, and the Russian Science Foundation (RSF).
Her responsibilities cover a wide range of scientific and educational activities: from supervising dissertations and student projects to organizing republican chemistry olympiads and supervising master’s internships.
For her many years of dedicated work and significant achievements, she was awarded the Certificate of Honor of the Government of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic.
Rima Bazheva consistently demonstrates deep knowledge and professionalism in the fields of education, science, and upbringing. She is distinguished by her integrity, fairness, and determination. Her constant pursuit of professional growth and knowledge expansion has earned her the well-deserved respect of her institute colleagues and university faculty.
The staff of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekova heartily congratulates Rima Chamalovna Bazheva on her anniversary and wishes her good health, happiness, and prosperity!
