Adyghe national games were held at KBSU
Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov, together with the Ministry of Youth of the KBR and the Multifunctional Youth Center of the KBR, organized vibrant thematic cultural events dedicated to the Day of the Circassians.
Opening the concert in the Sokurov Hall of the university, the host of the program, Honored Artist of the KBR Marina Gumova, told those present that, following the wishes of the people and supporting the proposals of Circassian public organizations, the Head of our republic in 2014 decided to establish this holiday.
“And who, if not young people, should be pioneers? – she asked a rhetorical question. – It was within the walls of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University that the first celebration was held. And this has already become a good tradition. The holiday occurs at the beginning of the school year and is a kind of first unifying event. It gathered different audiences, had different formats, but this time we, the artists of the republic, decided to support our native university, and today on the stage of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University are famous and beloved artists of our republic.”
The first number of the program was the performance of composer, arranger, virtuoso harmonica player Betal Ivanov, who performed his own composition about the Adyghe etiquette “Khabze”.
Having preceded the next artist’s appearance on stage with words from the famous song — “The Circassians live on my land / They call themselves Circassians / In the name of happiness they do not forgive evil / They do not believe cowards, they respect the proud / The Circassians live on my land / They have long been called Circassians,” — the presenter invited the popular performer, and part-time master’s student of the KBSU program «Adyghe Philology», Murat Shokuev with the composition «Mahueshkhue dzhegu». (Festive dzhegu // dance?)
“What is most important in life for a person? Happiness? Health? Knowledge? Conscience? Apparently this is different for everyone! But the Circassians have unshakable values. This is “nape”, (conscience), “adygag’e” (Adyghe), “ts1ykhug’e” (humanity). You can’t just take and translate these words, because they contain many meanings. And one of the most valuable qualities of an Adyghe is the ability to make friends. A friend is a brother! And for us, Circassians, friendship is the driving force. For several centuries now we have been living in love and mutual understanding with our dear neighbors. In one republic we are united by different nationalities, sharing both joys and sorrows. An example of this is the two friends who will now appear on this stage with the composition of the same name!” – after this preface, People’s Artist of the KBR Amur Tekuev and Honored Artist of the KBR Sultan Khazhiroko appeared on stage.
“Of course, a holiday is about beauty, youth, love, and what could be more beautiful than a Circassian woman? It is not for nothing that a poet once sang about her: “…I would like to compare you… / But the game of comparisons is perishable / For it is too obvious: You are incomparable among women.” After such a lyrical introduction, the choreographic composition “Cherkeshenka” to the music of Aslan Tlebzu was performed by the soloist of GAAT “Kabardinka” Karina Katanchieva. The text was read by the famous actor and director Said Bagov.
“A man is as many times a man as he knows the languages he knows,” the presenter of the concert cited a wise proverb, introducing the state folklore song and dance ensemble of the KBR “Terek Cossacks,” consisting of Russian-speaking singers who successfully perform compositions in the national languages of our republic.
Native language…. How many words, definitions, and disputes are associated with this concept! What could be better than a mother’s lullaby in her native language, the rustle of grass in her native language, a declaration of love in her native language? This is exactly what the composition “Adygebze” (Adyghe language), performed by Islam Gukov, is about.
The best for everyone starts with family. Tenderness, kindness, affection, protection, reliability, confidence — a person’s attitude to the world is formed by the family. This is an axiom for all peoples of the world. A beautiful married couple who confidently performs on stage and promotes unshakable human values is no exception. These are Honored Artist of the KBR Azamat Bekov and Renata Bekova, who were very warmly received by the audience.
Love rules the world, and the new love song “Zekheh” (Hear) performed by Astemir Terkulov did not leave anyone indifferent.
“No matter who we become, no matter where we live, there is a place where all thoughts and aspirations flock. A place in the name of which each of us dreams of succeeding. This is the Motherland. And, although the concept of “small homeland” today is used by the Adygs to define different places, we speak the same language, we are united by the same culture. And we are proud that we can coexist with different peoples, accept and honor different cultures,” these words were spoken before the performance of the GAAT “Kabardinka”, which performed the “Dance of the Mozdok Kabardians”
“It’s impossible to count how many peoples there are in the world. Everyone is proud of their language, their customs, their homeland. We respect everyone and encourage young people to do the same. The course of Kabardino-Balkarian University has always been and remains in this direction. Our strength is in unity. And the final composition, glorifying our people – Adygs (Circassians), about traditions, cultural heritage, which was bequeathed by wise ancestors.” After these final words of the host of the concert, the script of which was prepared by the director of the University Center for Adyghe Culture named after. A.A. Tsipinova Center, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Kabardian-Circassian Language and Literature Madina Ezaova, the stage program ended with all participants of the festive concert appearing on stage and performing the famous composition by Albert Tlyachev “Het zhyzy1er?” (Who said?)
The continuation of the festive events at KBSU were the Adyghe national games, organized on the site in front of the main building of the university by the candidate of philological sciences Idar Tsipinov, and the festive “Adyghe Dzhegu” — a Circassian dance circle.
In the prologue part of the games, the traditional dance manager, hatiyako, spoke about the rules of conduct during jagu, about the appearance and appropriate manners of the dancers, and the exemplary folk dance ensemble “Circassian” (artistic director Zamir Bzhikhatlov) vividly illustrated these rules in the dance performance.
“Circassian Day is a relatively young holiday; it has been celebrated by the Circassians of Russia since 2014. And the beauty of this holiday is that it is a wonderful opportunity to tell the younger generation about culture, about wonderful folk customs and traditions, by supporting which we become deeper, nobler and stronger. A wide program of festive events has been approved in Kabardino-Balkaria, one of the key parts of which was a concert and traditional games for youth at Kabardino-Balkaria State University,” noted Lina Mafedz, head of the department of the Ministry of Youth Affairs of the Kabardino-Balkaria.
And “Adyge Dzhegu” ended with the traditional princely dance of Kafa, which united random couples of different nationalities and peoples, thereby proving that genuine ethnic culture unites.
