Advanced training courses for colleagues from Lugansk on creating an inclusive educational environment at the university began at KBSU

September 26, 2022 at the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H.M. Berbekov started advanced training courses «Creating an inclusive educational environment in the university: problems and prospects» for teachers from the Luhansk State Pedagogical University.

Before the start of classes, the head of the inclusive education department of the Center for New Educational Technologies of the KBSU, Lyudmila Nastueva, and the representative of the KBSU in the Luhansk State Pedagogical University, Natalia Reutskaya, conducted an introductory tour of the university buildings with an emphasis on equipment under the Accessible Environment program. Lugansk residents visited with great interest the auditorium for independent work of students with disabilities, equipped with the necessary technical means to ensure the educational process for people with disabilities. Then the guests visited the Boiling Point of KBSU, a studio for video recording of courses, lectures, etc. In the college of design of the university, they admired the traditional costumes, decorations with national ornaments and patterns created by students.

Alim Kanloev, Deputy Director of the Institute of Architecture, Construction and Design of the KBSU for secondary vocational education, showed the paintings made during the plein air, the best projects of students in graphic design, interior design, landscape design, etc. The staff of the library of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University demonstrated the available technological conditions and resource base that provide unimpeded access to all forms of library services to disabled people, people with diseases that restrict their free access to libraries, people with special needs.

The lecture block of the CPC began with the topic “Methodological Foundations of Inclusive Education” — Aksana Popova, Deputy Director of the Social and Humanitarian Institute for New Educational Technologies, Ph.D. . During the week, teachers from Lugansk will study the legal framework for education for students with disabilities, including those with disabilities, in educational institutions of the Russian Federation; experience of inclusive education and statistics of employment and professional socialization of graduates with disabilities, with disabilities; ethical recommendations when communicating with people with disabilities, with disabilities; creation of special educational conditions for the implementation of inclusive education (on the example of KBSU); provision of situational assistance to persons with disabilities, with disabilities and other issues. After the final testing, CPC students will be issued certificates.

For reference: KBSU named after H.M. Berbekov is constantly working on improving the accessible environment to create a comfortable, inclusive educational space. As part of the activities of the Center for New Educational Technologies of KBSU, since 2018, the university has organized a department of inclusive education, which skillfully carries out the practice of psychological and organizational assistance to people with disabilities and persons with disabilities, starting with the submission of an application to the admissions committee by a specialist in charge of issues of special categories of applicants. Further education of special students continues according to the methodology of an individual approach.

At the university, students with disabilities have the opportunity to study both in general groups and in individual adaptation educational programs or programs with adaptation modules. To conduct classes in groups, special classrooms are equipped with sound-amplifying equipment, multimedia and other means to increase the level of perception of educational information. On the territory of KBSU, all the necessary inclusive household infrastructure has been thought out and implemented according to international standards.
So, for example, places for parking vehicles of disabled people are allocated, entrances to the educational buildings of the university are equipped with ramps (portable or stationary) or lifts, entrances are equipped with call buttons for employees for wheelchair users. All cases have special tactile and color markings for orientation in space. For the teaching staff of the university, advanced training courses are regularly held under the program «Psychological-pedagogical and medical-social foundations of working with disabled people and people with disabilities studying in professional educational programs.» In addition to the training program provided for by federal state standards, students with disabilities at KBSU can participate both in general cultural, educational, leisure activities, and in special competitions of professional skills, creative and scientific such as Abilympics, WorldSkills and My Professional Tomorrow.
An integral part of the accessible environment of KBSU is the benevolent and tolerant attitude of the university staff towards each other and towards people with special needs. The university has an inclusive volunteer cell, the backbone of which was made up of activists of the Volunteer Youth Squad. In 2019, the specialists of the Center for New Educational Technologies of KBSU, together with the RMTC of the NCFU, created an interactive platform «Territory of Understanding» with 4 interactive zones: silence, darkness, silence and immobility, where conditions are created so that everyone can feel for themselves how to live, if not to see, not to hear, not to be mobile.
The plans of KBSU to equip all educational buildings with inclusive infrastructure, in particular, in the IPEiF and SHI, work will begin on the installation of wheelchair lifts and special sections in the latrines. The new building of the Faculty of Medicine will be equipped with special inclusive equipment and inventory.
