How to preserve the health of the nation in the conditions of modern society? A series of lectures for first-year students of the Institute of Pedagogics, Psychology and Physical Education and Sports Education was held in the KBSU library. Among the listeners were also foreign students from Turkmenistan.

Marina Khakunova, a doctor at the Center for the Prevention and Control of AIDS in Nalchik, and Tatyana Nagornaya, a psychiatrist and narcologist, told the children how to protect themselves from harmful addictions and HIV infection, and reminded them of the ways in which the deadly virus spreads and preventive measures.

Millions of people on our planet are already infected with the human immunodeficiency virus. And in Kabardino-Balkaria, 1,379 people are currently registered with dispensaries, including children,

– Marina Khakunova noted with regret.

She emphasized that in our time, HIV is not a sentence, but a diagnosis. Thanks to new treatment methods, you can live with it for a long time and quite comfortably. However, this does not mean that you can relax and not think about protection from infection.

All HIV-positive patients in our country receive free medications that effectively suppress the infection and prevent the disease from progressing to the final stage — AIDS. If a person pays attention to their health, they can live with HIV for decades,

— Marina Kharabievna summarized.

Psychiatrist-narcologist Tatyana Nagornaya, in turn, told the students about the symptoms and consequences of using various types of drugs.

There are many types of narcotic substances now, new synthetic drugs are constantly appearing. Their effects and consequences are different. But the result is the same — persistent chemical dependence, degradation of a person as an individual, destruction of the entire body and inevitable death,

— Tatyana Nagornaya noted.

Special attention during the conversation was paid to a healthy lifestyle as a preventive measure against drug addiction. The students were also introduced to the measures of responsibility for crimes related to the illegal storage, sale and use of prohibited substances.

The lectures were organized by the leading specialist of the university library Alla Tengizova and Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor of KBSU Akhmed Malamatov.
