«Symbols of the Russian State» — under this title, a round table was held in the meeting room of the Academic Council of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov with the participation of government bodies, heads of public organizations, employees and students of the university.

The event was moderated by the director of the Institute of Political Economy and Philosophy Elena Mashukova.

Vice-rector Murat Gukepshokov first shared his thoughts on the national values of the peoples of Russia reflected in the state symbols, as well as on the practical significance of the flag in the socio-cultural and political life of society.

Deputy chairman of the government — Minister of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic Zalim Kashirokov congratulated those gathered on the Day of the State Flag of the Russian Federation and recalled the difficult transition period when Western ideologists tried to rewrite the centuries-old history of Russia and destroy its traditional values.

As our President Vladimir Putin once noted, we naively believed that the West cared about us. But, as time has shown, it was only concerned about the rich mineral wealth of our country. When society woke up and Russia began to protect its interests, former partners began to insist that our interests diverged. We launched a special military operation in Ukraine to protect our national culture and spiritual and moral heritage. When our fighters liberate a village on the contact line, they raise our national flag as a symbol of victory. It gives even more impetus and strength to move forward,

— emphasized Zalim Karachaevich.

Murat Gukepshokov compared the main state symbols to works of art. They are carefully preserved and treated with great reverence.

A special symbol is not only our tricolor, but also the Victory banner, with which our grandfathers and great-grandfathers went on the attack during the Great Patriotic War and took Berlin,

— vice-rector of the university continued.

Murat Khasanbievich cited the example of «color revolutions,» when the substitution of the flag and other values almost led to the collapse of entire states. He called on young people to take care of the main symbols that are an integral part of our history.

Director of the Institute of Law, Economics and Finance Elena Mashukova told the participants of the round table about administrative and criminal liability for disrespect for the attributes of power.

Punitive measures will not achieve anything if society is morally corrupt. Fortunately, the country’s residents, due to their upbringing, do not allow an unacceptable attitude to the main attributes,

— Mashukova emphasized and voiced the idea of the need to include a section on «state symbols» in the curriculum for jurisprudence.

She noted that the faculty of KBSU enthusiastically accepted the new law on education, which states that educational institutions should first focus on the educational function, and then on the provision of educational services, since spiritual and moral values are the foundation of the state.

Alim Sizhazhev, deputy chairman of the Muslim Spiritual Directorate of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, also expressed his attitude to the main symbols of the country.

You have to stand up when the national anthem is played — this is a sign of respect for the state, and not a form of worship. At the North Caucasus Islamic University named after Imam Abu Hanifa, I teach a subject called “Formation of the Civil Identity of Muslims of Russia.” And it states that a person, regardless of religion, must strictly observe the laws of the country in which he lives,

— said Sizhazhev.

The minister for Nationalities and Public Projects of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic Anzor Kurashinov, the head of the Department of Religious Education of the Pyatigorsk and Cherkessk Diocese of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic priest Konstantin Osipov and the head of the Headquarters of the Kabardino-Balkarian Regional Branch of the All-Russian Public Organization «Young Guard» of United Russia Albek Abazov also expressed their vision.

The speakers called for the preservation of traditions and respect for elders. They noted that the symbols of a great state with a centuries-old history should be treated with pride and respect.

In conclusion, Elena Mashukova invited students to present their ideas on the form of holding events dedicated to state symbols. These proposals will be accumulated and included in the final resolution, which will be sent to the guests.
