November 1 marks the 107th anniversary of the birth of the People’s Poet of Kabardino-Balkaria, laureate of the USSR and RSFSR state prizes Kaisyn Kuliev. To mark the memorable date, a photo exhibition entitled «Look at the world with kind eyes» was organized at the Pedagogical College of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov.

The black-and-white photos are a chronicle of Kaisyn’s life. Along with portraits, there are photographs of Kuliev in the family circle, as well as surrounded by friends, colleagues, and prominent political and public figures of the last century.

The opening of the exhibition was attended by the director of the SHI Muslim Tamazov, deputy directors Khakim Gegraev and Anezha Kushkhova, director of the Adyghe Culture Center named after A.A. Tsipinova Madina Ezaova, teachers and students.

The audience was told about the creative path of the great Balkar poet. Kaisyn Kuliev was born in the highland Balkar village of El-Tyubyu in the Chegem Gorge, showed interest in poetry from early childhood and already in his youth began to actively engage in creativity. In his poems, Kaisyn wrote about his love for the Motherland, the beauty of the nature of his native land, the traditions and customs of local peoples. Since mid-1942, Kaisyn Kuliev’s poems have been published in central printed publications in Russian translations, and are broadcast on All-Union Radio, bringing fame to the author.

Near Stalingrad, Kaisyn Kuliev met Alim Keshokov, a famous Kabardian writer and poet. During the battle for Sevastopol, Alim Keshokov carried the wounded Kuliev from the battlefield and carried his comrade to the hospital in his arms. That was the beginning of their friendship, which became a legend and a symbol of the fraternal relations of the mountain peoples.

Today, admirers of Kuliev’s talent of different nationalities and faiths have come here. It is important that we be friends as Kaisyn Kuliev and Alim Keshokov were, despite all our differences. We all know what a great internationalist Kaisyn was and how he loved people and how much kindness was in his heart. I hope that today’s event will leave a kind mark in your souls that you will carry throughout your entire life,

— said Ismail Beituganov, director of the Balkar Culture Center, opening the exhibition.

Kuliev left a huge legacy in poetry. Hundreds of poems and dozens of collections have been translated into 140 languages of the world and published in many countries. His works are still popular and recognized. At the opening of the photo exhibition in the pedagogical college, Kaisyn’s immortal lines were also heard.
