The Day of National Unity was celebrated in a big way at the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov.

In honor of one of the youngest holidays in Russia, a large-scale exhibition of national farmsteads was held in the university lobby. Students from more than 40 countries introduced guests to the customs and traditions of their homeland and offered to taste national cuisine.

The participants formed seven farmsteads, which united residents of India, Africa, Turkmenistan and Jordan from foreign countries and Kabardians, Balkars and Russians from the indigenous peoples of our republic.

Having cut the festive cake, KBSU vice-rector for Youth Policy, Educational Work and Social Issues Beslan Nazranov gave the start to the holiday. It began with a tasting of national dishes.

Students from Turkmenistan prepared traditional pilaf, also called «zoly», as well as samsa and manti.

Indians – curry. This is not a specific dish, but a whole group of various dishes: meat, chicken, fish, vegetable, vegetarian with tofu or beans.

Africans offered gourmets to try «couscous» covered with fish and vegetables.

Jordanians, representing the Arab segment, prepared «mansaf» — a lamb dish in a sauce of fermented dried yogurt.

Kabardins and Balkars delighted the guests of the exhibition with lyagur (dried meat) with pasta and khichins, which are widely known outside the country. Everyone managed to visit each other, get to know each other and hold joint photo sessions.

Asiyat Zhurtova, Director of the Higher School of International Education at KBSU, noted:

This is how integration and socialization of foreign students into our society takes place. A very cool atmosphere, the holiday was a great success.

Second-year medical student Davlet Agadzhanov from Turkmenistan enjoyed the holiday:

Such holidays undoubtedly unite us, today I met students from India and Jordan, we exchanged numbers, we will correspond.

A student of the social and humanitarian institute Arina Zenets is Belarusian. National Unity Day is a holiday close to her heart. The girl was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere that reigned at the university:

I tried Kabardian, Balkarian and Indian national dishes, incredible tastes. And the atmosphere, of course, is cool here. I am impressed!
There was also a cultural exchange. Students from India showed how to apply a henna design. Jordanians taught those who wanted to how to properly tie an «arafatka».

The Jordanians also became the main ringleaders of the holiday. The Levantine Arab folk dance «dabke», popular in Lebanon, Palestine, Syria, Jordan and Iraq, captivated literally everyone. Turkmens and Africans stood in a circle with the Arabs. This is national unity and rapprochement of cultures.

As acting rector of KBSU Yuri Altudov noted, foreign students are happy to take an active part in all significant events held by the university. And the university, for its part, helps them adapt to life in Russia. This work is carried out within the framework of the adopted strategy in the field of international cooperation.

About two thousand four hundred foreign students from more than 40 countries study at KBSU. They share their unique traditions and customs with their classmates and teachers, and we, for our part, conduct cultural and educational work with them. They study the history, geography and culture of the peoples inhabiting Kabardino-Balkaria. There is an incredible cultural exchange that brings peoples together,

— emphasized the head of the university Yuri Altudov.

Thanks to today’s exhibition of national farmsteads, at least young people from 40 countries of the world now know what National Unity Day means for Russians. Foreign students of KBSU emphasized that they will remember this date for a long time, and wished Russians peace and prosperity!
