A KBSU student project won first place in an architectural competition in Krasnodar
Students from the Institute of Architecture, Construction, and Design at KBSU won first place in an architectural workshop in Krasnodar. The event was held as part of the International Festival «Days of Architecture» at Kuban State University.
Eleven top teams from leading Russian universities participated in the competition. Participants had 72 hours to develop a comprehensive project for the reconstruction of Officers’ Square on Rostov Highway. The project included a full cycle of work: from pre-project analysis and potential identification to functional zoning and presentation creation.
The KBSU team, led by Dissana Iuan, senior lecturer in the Department of Architecture and Design, won. The team included fourth-year students Darina Khezeva, Asker Tutov, Asker Tanashev, and Margarita Vasilchenko.
The students worked on a challenging site: the overgrown square is located next to a railroad and a busy highway. At the same time, the concept took into account the location’s potential, including the proximity of key points of interest—the monument to the liberators of Yekaterinodar and public transportation stops.
«When we first came to Krasnodar, we were inspired by the local tram, which recently celebrated its 125th anniversary. This became the basis for the concept,» said project winner Darina Khezeva.
The students proposed an original solution linking the site’s military history with civilian infrastructure. A pond, shaped like the curves of the Kuban River, was designed near the monument. Nine trams of various models, adapted for use as cafes and coworking spaces, are located along the main avenue. Particular attention was paid to creating a barrier-free environment for all visitors.
Work on the project was conducted in parallel: part of the team worked on 3D modeling, while others prepared the presentation. During the defense, the jury showed keen interest in the project: members of the committee photographed the project and asked numerous questions, praising the students’ creative approach.
In parallel with the workshop, an annual competition for the best architectural work was held, aimed at supporting and promoting the career growth of young architects, designers, urban planners, and artists. Students from the Institute of Architecture and Urban Development at KBSU demonstrated excellent preparation and were awarded several prestigious awards.
Lima Kulieva, a junior student, distinguished herself by receiving a silver medal for her project «Rotunda.»
Senior students Asker Tanashev and Asker Tutov shared first place with their projects «Museum of Contemporary Art» and «16-Story Residential Building,» respectively.
Second- and third-place diplomas in the senior category went to the work of Darina Khezeva (a residential building with parking) and Margarita Vasilchenko (a 330-student school).
In the graduation project section, Azamat Afaunov received a second-place award for his concept for a chalet-style hotel complex (Elbrus District).
All winners worked under the strict guidance of faculty from the Department of Architecture and Design: Fatimat Atabieva, Alim Tutaev, Astemir Shinakhov, and Khazret Guketlov.
Congratulations to the students of the Institute of Architecture, Construction, and Design and their academic advisors on their outstanding achievements! We wish you continued professional success, new victories, and the realization of your bright creative ideas.
