A Day of Open Scientific Lectures was held at KBSU
September 2nd within the framework of the Year of Science and Technology in the Russian Federation in all educational departments of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H. M. Berbekov held open lectures on the thematic track «Contemporary Russian Science».
23 popular science and highly specialized lectures on various topics were held at KBSU by leading scientists of the university. Top questions on the agenda: How is science developing? What are the most pressing challenges and problems to be solved by modern scientists? How does science affect the development of humanity? What areas of research are considered promising today?
An open lecture on the topic «Polymer chemistry: the present and the future» was delivered by the acting vice-rector for research work of the university, head of the laboratory of progressive polymers of KBSU, doctor of chemical sciences, professor Svetlana Khashirova. At the beginning of the meeting she met the future chemists and assured them that the students would never regret their choice.
In an accessible form, the lecturer talked about what polymers are, why they are needed in life, why the future of almost all natural science areas is associated with polymer chemistry.
After the lecture Svetlana Yurievna had a conversation with the participants of the lecture — students of the Institute of Chemistry and Biology, she was interested in whether all of them purposefully entered chemistry, who has any professional plans, and so on. It turned out that two students came to Nalchik from other regions of the country — from Moscow and the Saratov region, having learned that KBSU has one of the strongest polymer schools in Russia. At the end of the meeting, the vice-rector for research at KBSU said that if students show themselves well in their studies, they will be able to become scientists and find high-paying jobs throughout Russia.
On the same day, a number of interesting lectures were held in other departments of the university: the medical faculty highlighted the topic: «Realities, difficulties and prospects of modern Russian medical science», an open lecture on the topic «Modern psychology in Russia: main directions of development «. At the Institute of Physics and Mathematics they thought about a universal formula for solving scientific problems and presented a lecture: «The finite element method, or a general method for solving scientific problems.» The online lecture «Ethnography in the system of modern scientific knowledge» for future ethnologists and anthropologists was read by Vladimir Grusman, Doctor of Pedagogy, Scientific Director of the Social and Humanitarian Institute of KBSU. And the candidate of historical sciences, engineer of the department of grants of UNIID KBSU Asker Tumov told the students about the grant support of young scientists.
September in the thematic calendar of the Year of Science and Technology is devoted to genetics and the quality of life; a number of KBSU departments are preparing a program of events on this topic.
