A conference on genetic safety was held at KBSU
The problems of maintaining a healthy gene pool, new challenges and threats to genetic safety were discussed at a round table at the Institute of Chemistry and Biology of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H.M. Berbekov.
The meeting was held as part of a program of events dedicated to the Year of Science and Technology in Russia. The lecture was delivered by Anzor Paritov, Candidate of Biological Sciences, Head of the Department of Geoecology and Molecular-Genetic Foundations of Living Systems of the IHiB KBSU.
And about. Vice-Rector for Research, Doctor of Chemistry Svetlana Khashirova noted that the issues of genetic health research, especially during the development of technologies, are of particular relevance:
“It is very good that in the year of science and technology, we have touched upon such a topic as genetics. Congratulations to all biologists, you have the opportunity to study a difficult, but very promising area of science, I hope in the future you will be able to protect us from new viruses and threats. »
The main issues of the lecture are the technology of molecular systems and genetic information; violation of gene codes and chromosomal mutations.
In addition, Anzor Paritov spoke about the direction in which his department is engaged:
“In our department we study breast cancer. This is a very difficult and long process, because it is studied by six genes, and believe me, this is also not enough. Of course, we are studying other cancers as well ”.
After the lecture, the participants received comprehensive answers to all their questions.
